Coolibar
(Minneapolis, Minn.)
John and Mary Barrow are parents of three who want to educate
Americans regarding the rapidly emerging epidemic of skin cancer
and arm them with effective tools to protect themselves and their
families. As a native of Australia, where skin cancer effects
one of every seven people, John is keenly aware of the harmful
effects of the sun’s ultraviolet rays and the need for sensible
sun protection. In order to help Americans stay healthy, Mary
and John wrote the book Sun
Protection for Life: Your Guide to a Lifetime of Healthy &
Beautiful Skin (New Harbinger, 2005). In 2001, John founded
a sun-protective clothing company to bring Australia’s world-leading
approaches to sun protection to the American market. The company,
Coolibar, taking its name from the Australian Eucalyptus tree,
has extensively redesigned Australian sun protective clothing
styles to meet the tastes and needs of fashion- and health-conscious
Americans. Coolibar’s specially designed clothing is a simple
foundation for guaranteed protection from the sun’s harmful
ultraviolet rays.
